Our meeting is being hosted by Chef Dallas Parrish & Foodsales East At 6 p.m. we gathered for our Southern Fried Chicken Contest. This is an event that will be for Bragging Rights as well as a $200 first prize. Foodsales East had us set up in their court yard. In addition to the 19 entrants we were treated to a delicious spread of complimentary dishes by Chef Dallas and Foodsales East.
At 7:30 Our General Meeting was called to order by Sergeant at Arms Willie Jemison. Gary Rawson took a moment to acknowledge the Art Institute’s Lisa Ramsey and their team.
Minuets from June 08 were read by Cathy Hofmann – they were approved as read. Treasurers Report for April 08 was given by Chef Anna Hicks. They were approved as read. Please note that both the Minuets and Treasurer Reports are on file with Chapter Secretary. Any member in good standing may request to review these documents at anytime. President Rawson welcomed all to the meeting and asked that any visitors to introduce themselves. Chef Willie Jemison invited anyone who would like to participate in the Chef & Child - Childhood Nutrition Day to please let him know. It will October 16, 2008 at the Johnson School for 10a.m. to 2 p.m. Chef Rawson announced that it is now time for the installation of officers. He wanted to thank the officers and board members for their efforts to make the chapter strong. In addition he took the opportunity to thank the purveyors for all of the contributions they make in products and man power . We have many great things happening and so much is coming, said Gary. In introduced our Parliamentarian Elaine Parker. Elaine gave us a brief history of how officers and board in the organization are to govern and what is expected of them. She then introduced them. They came forward and each was given a gift to remind them of their position.
Standing Committees will be appointed in the coming months. Gary Rawson, past President will take up his honorary position as Chairman of the Board. As they all stood before us Robert Siegel read the Culinary Code With that Gary Rawson passed the chapter gavel to Michael Osborne. Michael said to Gary, “ I look forward to your guidance as I assume my duties. Chef Osborne gave us an overview of his plate form. His focus is on Certification and the Practical Examination for the Middle TN Chapter. Paul Jensen of Nashville State Tech, has accepted the position of Chairman of Certification. On Oct 13 th Nashville Community College will hold the first practical exam. The past Board of Directors from our chapter also shares in this direction and has voted to financially support this program to move forward. Thank you to Foodsales East, Randy Sanders, & Chef Dallas Parrish for once again hosting our September Meeting. Chef Osborne introduced Eric Martin to introduce our educational speaker for the evening. Eric would like to let us know that it is Foodsales East privilege to host our Sept. meeting. Tyson has sponsored the Fried Chicken Competition this evening. We have Chris Paisley of Tyson to talk with us about Weathering the Tough Times that we are all experiencing. He also advised of what Tyson forecast for the future of the poultry industry moving forward. Now for the BIG CHICKEN MOMENT. 1 st Place and $200 goes to Willie Jemison - 2 nd place Michael Osborne - 3 rd place Josh Kiev & Robbie Hammond - 4 th place Rick Kahre We also gave out rubber chickens to participants. Be sure and mark your calendars for Oct 20 th Meeting. It will held at Chaffin’s Barn, Chef / Secretary Kim Ingram will be our host. Overton Produce will be our education sponsor with the subject of Wild Mushrooms for the evening. Our meeting was adjourned at 8:20 Minuets respectfully recorded by Secretary, Cathy Hoormann |

The educational portion of the program was be presented by FSE and Tyson. Chris Paisley - Sales Development Manager gave us a brief overview of how to weather the tough times. The information came from market studies and research sponsored by Tyson. In a special edition of Insights & Discovery, Shelter from the Storm - Tyson had some ideas on how to face the slumping market. |
